Derogation procedures for supervising doctoral theses at Université Paris-Est

There are two types of derogations for supervising theses:

  1. Doctors who do not hold an HDR may request a derogation to supervise or co-supervise a doctoral thesis (Article 16 of the Order of 25 May 2016 on doctoral training). The derogation may be granted only once and for one supervised doctoral student only. The HDR should preferably be defended within one year. The decision is taken by the President of UPE on proposal made by the Doctoral Training Council Bureau.
The application (to download) must be sent to the doctoral school concerned three weeks before the Doctoral Training Council Bureau meeting.
  2. In the absence of an emeritus in the schools of architecture and to facilitate the completion of theses in progress, UPE offers teachers of these schools, who so request it, the possibility of a derogation to continue the supervision of the theses started. The decision is taken by the President of UPE on proposal made by the Doctoral Training Council Bureau.
The request must be sent to the City, Transport and Territories (VTT) doctoral school three weeks before the Doctoral Training Council Bureau meeting.

Once the application is signed and submitted, it is transmitted electronically by the doctoral school to HDR@univ-paris-est.fr and the original filed with the HDR office at the latest one week before the Doctoral Training Council Bureau meeting.

The Doctoral Training Council Bureau meeting calendar is detailed in the registration and defence procedure.
